AI and work / Guide

How AI changes tasks and workflows

Occupation titles are broad containers. To understand how AI may intersect with work, examine the tasks, decisions, handoffs, and responsibilities inside them.

Look at the work itself

Information handling, drafting, classification, scheduling, physical execution, interpersonal judgment, and accountability can be affected in different ways. A shared occupation label does not mean every worker has the same workflow.

A task can change without disappearing

A tool may reduce time spent on one activity while increasing review, exception handling, communication, or responsibility for the final result. The direction and scale of change depend on the setting.

Context still matters

Local knowledge, access to tools, privacy requirements, safety expectations, and relationships with customers or patients can shape what is practical. Evidence about one task does not settle the future of an entire occupation.
