Software development is moving up a level of abstraction

Software developers increasingly have tools that can turn an idea into a prototype, generate interface components, write database queries, produce tests, explain errors, and suggest entire implementation approaches. This does not simply make developers faster. It changes what one developer or a small team can realistically attempt.

That expansion cuts both ways. A feature that once justified weeks of development may become much cheaper to build. At the same time, organizations may attempt more features, integrations, experiments, and internal tools because the cost of trying them has fallen.

The center of gravity moves from code production to system ownership
