Medical imaging is one of the most mature areas for clinical AI. Algorithms can help identify suspicious patterns, prioritize studies, improve image reconstruction, reduce noise, and support clinicians interpreting scans. It is easy to assume that this means the imaging staff themselves are being automated, but radiologic technologists perform a different set of tasks.

Before an image can be analyzed, someone has to create it correctly

Technologists position patients, select protocols, operate complex equipment, work around implants or mobility limitations, follow radiation-safety procedures, recognize when an image is inadequate, and help patients who may be frightened or in pain. The quality of the AI analysis cannot exceed the usefulness of the study it receives.
